After 18 months as the CFO of Uganda Airlines, Andrew Ssekamwa has left the national carrier and joined Movit Products as a chief commercial officer responsible for the Tanzania, Western DRC and Zambia markets. The transition is effective 1 September 2024.
This will be his second stint at Movit having previously worked for the company as a business development manager and head of finance. Andrew has also worked in the banking sector in finance roles at Standard Chartered and as CFO of I&M Bank Uganda.
Asked about the reason for his departure from Uganda Airlines, Andrew explained that it was a necessary step in his quest to become a business leader.
“I feel like my career is missing something from the commercial bit of things. I have taken up the commercial officer position at Movit as it will provide me with wider responsibilities than what I am doing currently. I am excited about the prospect of scaling up Movit products in emerging markets which will be a great challenge that I can add to my experience,” he explained.
Movit Products is Uganda’s leading personal care company manufacturing a range of beauty and personal care brands. The company has operations across East and Central Africa and Andrew’s immediate priorities will be stabilising the business in the aforementioned markets; while entrenching and scaling market share.
“Since leaving Movit, I feel like I have grown my experience at I&M and at Uganda Airlines in a manner that would be beneficial on my return. At I&M, I was involved in a merger and acquisition followed by efforts to penetrate a new market. At Uganda Airlines, I learnt a lot about stakeholder management given that it is a government owned entity. I feel better equipped to build relationships that will be necessary in navigating new territories,” he explained.
Uganda Airlines is in the process of hiring a new CFO following Andrew’s departure.
