Bernadette Mutuku appointed independent non-executive director at KMRC

The former CFO of Centum Real Estate steps into board leadership after more than 30 years in finance across FMCG, automotive and real estate.

Bernadette Mutuku has been appointed as an independent non-executive director of Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company , subject to regulatory approval.

The appointment follows her departure from Centum Real Estate, where she served as CFO from July 2023 to April 2026.

Bernadette built the foundation of her career at PwC Kenya, where she spent four years from August 1991 as an external auditor . She joined East African Breweries (EABL) in September 1995 as a senior internal auditor.

In Janauary 2022, Bernadette transitioned into decision support at EABL in January 2002, partnering with the leadership team on key value and growth initiatives including EABL's bid to acquire an interest in Ethiopia and the Senator Keg innovation launch. She moved to Uganda i October 2006 as head of finance at subsidiary Uganda Breweries , where she served for four years.

Bernadette returned to Kenya in November 2010 as financial controller at Serengeti Breweries, also part of EABL. She joined Diageo's Africa Business Services Centre in Nairobi in December 2012 as reporting manager, a role she held for over seven years. 

She returned to EABL once more in March 2020 as finance director of East African Maltings , a transitionary role focused on integrating EAML's finance processes into those of Kenya Breweries and EABL. A year later, Bernadette moved to CMC Motors Group as group CFO, before taking up the CFO role at Centum Real Estate in July 2023.

Bernadette holds a BSc in mathematics and chemistry from Kenyatta University.
