David Wafula will devote the next few months to strengthening corporate governance through his directorial roles at various companies in South Africa, Kenya and Rwanda and completing his studies in sustainable leadership.
“Effective systems undergo routine checks and maintenance to ensure longevity and efficiency. This career break is my strategic 'maintenance period' – a chance to revitalize, deepen family connections, and most importantly, repurpose my skills and experience for the future. I'm looking forward to returning with renewed purpose after playing lots of golf,” he says.
David is currently enrolled in an executive education program at LeAD Campus, a collaboration between HEC Paris, the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (GSB), and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. He also serves as a board member at BluLever Education, Huza HR, and Intouch Communications among other entities.
Having led ContourGlobal’s finance function in Africa and the US and managed its Rwanda operations for nearly a decade, David has a wealth of experience in finance, leadership, strategy, and stakeholder management gained across different markets,
During his time with the power producer, he held a series of leadership roles including chief finance officer for Africa and managing director of KivuWatt, a ContourGlobal Subsidiary. He also served as acting CFO for Africa and U.S. Assets, playing a vital role in integrating the then newly-acquired assets into the ContourGlobal universe and Rwanda operations.
David began his career at PwC, where he rose to the role of manager, gaining a foundation in business advisory, audit, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. There, he helped establish PwC Rwanda’s learning, education, and methodology department and led audit and advisory engagements across multiple African countries.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi, an MSc in Finance from the University of Aberdeen, and an MBA from ALU School of Business. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA-K)
