CFO Moses Nyabanda takes on acting MD role at Equity Bank

post-title

Equity Bank Kenya has appointed Moses Okoth Nyabanda, currently the group chief finance and strategy execution officer at Equity Group Holdings, as acting managing director, pending approval from the Central Bank of Kenya. This follows current MD Gerald Warui's early retirement.

Moses has over two decades of experience in the accounting, auditing and consulting industry. He is a former partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Holding multiple credentials, including CPA, CPS and a first class honours in finance from the University of Nairobi, Moses’ deep-rooted expertise has significantly impacted both his clients and the broader financial services industry.

His journey at PwC, which began in 2001, saw him rise through the ranks from manager to senior manager and then to director, before taking on the mantle of partner.

During his tenure, Moses led a team of skilled professionals in providing top-tier assurance, tax, advisory and consulting services to a wide range of clients, including startups, multinational corporations and government agencies. His leadership was instrumental in managing complex projects involving restructuring, due diligence, internal controls implementation and enhancing financial reporting and compliance frameworks.

In April 2024, Moses left the country manager position at PwC Rwanda and took on a new challenge as the group chief finance and strategy execution officer at Equity Bank. He had a brief stint in this role as he is now transitioning to the managing director position after only five months.
