David Ngata appointed CFO of I&M Bank Group

post-title

I&M Group has announced the appointment of David Ngata as the new Group CFO, effective 23rd September 2024. Subject to regulatory approval, David will take over the reins of the Group’s financial operations at a crucial time, bringing with him a wealth of experience in global financial services and deep expertise in financial management and analytics. He joins I&M Group from Equity Bank Group, where he served as the Group Director of Finance for over six years.

David replaces Billy Ngetich, who served as Group CFO in an acting capacity since January 2024, steering the finance department and leading the reporting of the first-quarter and half-year results.

With over two decades of experience in the financial sector, David is expected to play a pivotal role in driving I&M Group's financial strategy, growth, and operational efficiency across its various markets. His broad expertise in finance and analytics, along with his leadership acumen, positions him well to contribute to the Group’s ambitious goals, especially as it continues to expand its footprint across the region. I&M Group PLC operates in five countries—Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Mauritius—through its subsidiaries, affiliates, and joint venture investments in each of these countries.

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science in Business Analytics from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). He has over 20 years of global experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Equity Bank in 2018, he worked at American Express, where he held various roles, including leading the global internal audit data analytics practice. He also specialised in the audit of banking institutions, leasing companies, investment banks, and broker-dealers with KPMG in New York and Kenya.
