Finance director Kinya Kimotho starts a new chapter

post-title

Finance director Kinya Kimotho has embarked on a three-month career sabbatical to focus on mentoring, leading and driving impact in new spaces.

“After eight fulfilling years at Diageo, I am now exploring the next chapter of my professional journey. These eight years have been filled with learning, growth, and meaningful contributions,” Kinya said.

Until December 2024, Kinya served as the finance and strategy director for partner emerging markets in Africa at Diageo. She joined the British multinational in 2026, serving as finance director for East African Breweries Limited (EABL) at subsidiary Kenya Breweries. Her career journey began in audit at PwC, where she worked for four years before transitioning into industry roles. This was followed by a 10-year stint at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where she rose steadily through the ranks from chief accountant to financial controller and eventually finance director, playing a key role in business planning, risk management, and performance optimisation.

In 2012, Kinya took on the role of executive director of finance for Africa at The Nielsen Company, where she led the continent’s financial strategy and operations for over three years.

As she takes time to explore new opportunities, Kinya, who was named one of East Africa’s 25 most powerful women in finance in 2024, reveals she is excited for what lies ahead.
