When Stanbic Bank Kenya's chief finance and value officer (CFVO), Dennis Musau, turned 40, he sought a meaningful way to celebrate the milestone.
Rather than an extravagant holiday or a lavish party, his heart led him to give back to his rural community in Kitui County, where he embarked on a project that would benefit future generations. Dennis, a man of deep faith and humility, shared his intentions in a heartfelt message shortly after his birthday in 2022: “Friends, God has blessed me with a long fruitful life. I recently turned 40 by God’s grace. To celebrate this, (my wife) Jane and I would like to build a library and an administration block at Kaivisi Primary School. We’re inviting you to partner with us in prayer, advice, and financially. Thank you…”
With the help of friends, family, and corporate partners, his dream materialised. The project, completed in less than two years, now stands as a testament to his commitment to uplifting his community. The new administration block and resource centre is already making a significant impact on the students and teachers at Kaivisi Primary School.
Reflecting on the journey, Dennis explained his motivation: "I’m passing by this earth but once, and while I’m here, I’ll try to hold the ladder for those that come after me." His deep-rooted desire to help others was not just a passing thought but a calling. “Grateful to have conceived and executed the building of an administration block and resource centre at my alma mater, Kaivisi Primary School, Kitui County.”
Collective effort
The project’s success was a collective effort, and Dennis was quick to acknowledge those who contributed: “Thank you, friends, who supported the project. Thank you, Kaivisi parents, for making remarkable contributions in kind and labour. And thank you, Stanbic Bank Kenya, Rotary Club of Nairobi Samawati, and Longhorn Publishers (Maxwell Ndung'u Wahome), for your donations of books, furniture, and computers.”
Despite its completion, Dennis emphasises that the journey is not entirely over. “The block is now in use, and although we still need to finalise some aspects like bookshelves, furniture, and water reticulation, I feel this group has served its purpose.”
His vision for the future of Kaivisi Primary School is clear. “May these resources impact many young souls from deep rural Kitui with knowledge and power to overcome their circumstances today. And may all glory return to our heavenly father always,” he said, echoing his gratitude for the opportunity to give back.
The project launch event on Friday 11 October 2024 was a celebratory occasion, with the local community coming together to witness the fruits of collective effort. Photos captured the moments of joy and pride as Dennis and his partners unveiled the new block. Special guests included Risper Genga-Ohaga, the group CFO of East African Breweries Limited.
As the initiative wraps up, Dennis remains committed to transparency. He plans to provide a financial reconciliation to the donors that contributed to the project, ensuring accountability and a clear record of how the funds were utilised.
