Chalapathi has over three decades of leadership experience in finance, strategy, and corporate governance across Africa and Asia.
NVV Chalapathi Rao has been appointed as the group CFO of Ugandan conglomerate Madhvani Group. He will steer the group’s financial strategy and improve governance across its businesses in the region.
Until May 2024, Chalapathi was the group CFO and head of corporate affairs at Ghanaian steel manufacturer B5 Plus Group. Chalapathi began his career in 1993 as manager of internal audit for the Asia and Pacific region at ALSTOM Traction. In 2001, he moved to Saud Bahwan Group as a cost and management accountant before joining Galadari Brothers Group in 2004 as group head of internal audit.
In 2007, he was appointed group CFO at GWC. A year later, he transitioned to Jaypee Greens, where he served as deputy general manager for finance and IT until 2013. He was then appointed as vice-president of operations and group head of internal audit at Mohinani Group, where he served until January 2015. In February 2015, Chalapathi became the head of internal audit for Africa at Wilmar International, a position he held for a year.
Between January 2016 and May 2018, he served as group CFO and director at Melcom Group of Companies.
Chalapathi holds an MCom from Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University and a Bachelor's degree in accounting from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. He holds several certifications including certified management accountant (CMA) and a certified fraud examiner (CFE).
