Stephen Owuyo

Stephen Owuyo is the group finance director at Equity Group Holdings. 

Before he assumed the role, Stephen was head of financial planning and analysis and cost management for corporate and investment banking at Absa Group. Prior to that, he served as CFO of Absa Vehicle Management Solutions and Fleet Card, where he was responsible for end-to-end financial leadership, including strategy, profitability, and capital management.

Between 2020 and 2023, Stephen held the role of director, financial controller for Absa Regional Operations (ARO), overseeing the financial control function across ten banking institutions in nine African countries. 

Stephen was previously group financial controller at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated in Togo. He began his career at PwC, where he rose through the ranks over nearly 14 years to become associate director. His time at the firm spanned Kenya and South Africa, with experience leading financial services audits, IFRS compliance, and advisory services on credit and operational risk. 

Stephen holds a Bachelor of business management in accounting and finance from Moi University. He has also completed executive education programmes at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and holds certifications in ESG investing, strategic agility, and data-driven decision making.
