Andrew Makumbi appointed acting MD at Old Mutual Insurance Uganda

Andrew assumes the role following the departure of Stephen Chikovore, who will step down from his role on 31 January.

Andrew Makumbi has been appointed as acting managing director of Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, effective February 1, 2026.

He joined Old Mutual Uganda as chief financial officer in September 2025, where he oversees financial operations for the general, health, and properties businesses. In his new capacity as acting managing director, Andrew will lead Old Mutual Insurance Uganda's strategy and operations as the company continues to strengthen its market position in Uganda's insurance sector.

Andrew's career in finance began at PwC Uganda in September 2004, where he progressed from audit associate to assistant manager over seven years. In February 2012, he joined Jubilee Insurance Uganda as chief accountant before moving to AIG Uganda as CFO in November 2013.

During his tenure at AIG, Andrew expanded his regional experience, serving as regional operational controller in Johannesburg, South Africa from May 2015, before being promoted to chief financial officer for AIG Kenya in January 2016, a position he held until October 2019.

He returned to Jubilee Insurance Uganda as chief financial officer in October 2019, leading financial operations until August 2024. After a brief period as a finance consultant, he assumed his current role at Old Mutual in September 2025.

Andrew holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Makerere University and professional designations as a certified public accountant (CPA), fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), and fellow of the Institute of Financial Consultants (FIFC).
