She moves to the insurance and asset management conglomerate after six years at the helm of EABL’s finance function.
Risper Genga Ohaga has been named group CEO of APA Apollo Group, effective 1 July 2026.
She succeeds Ashok Shah, who has led the group for fourteen years. She has served as the group CFO and executive director at East African Breweries (EABL), a position she holds until her planned departure on 30 June 2026.

APA Apollo Group is a stable of six companies operating in insurance and asset management: APA Insurance, APA Life, APA Uganda, Apollo Asset Management, Gordon Court, and Reliance Insurance in Tanzania. APA Insurance is Kenya’s second-largest general insurer by gross premium income, holding an 8.9 percent market share.
During her time as EABL group CFO, Risper has overseen balance sheet management and funding decisions that kept the company’s strategy on track. The brewer also collected several financial reporting accolades under her watch, with Risper working to build investor relations capability and internal finance talent.
Risper received the Women on Boards Award 2024, the Inclusive Leader Award for East Africa 2024, and was named CFO of the Year 2024. She was also a finalist for the 2025 CFO Awards for East Africa.
Before joining EABL in February 2020, Risper was CFO at Barclays Bank Zambia and held senior internal audit roles spanning the banking group’s operations across thirteen African countries.
She served as a non-executive director at I&M Bank Kenya and as an independent non-executive director and chair of the board audit and risk committee at APA Insurance prior to her appointment as group CEO.
Risper holds a BCom in accounting from the University of Nairobi and is a certified public accountant (CPA-K). She also holds certifications in executive coaching.
