Sarah Bateta Okwi to act as managing director at MTN Mobile Money Uganda

She will take on the role in addition to her current position as CFO, effective March 1, 2026.

Sarah Bateta Okwi, CFO at MTN Mobile Money Uganda , has been appointed to act as managing director effective 1 March 2026.

She takes on the role following the departure of Richard Yego, who steps down as managing director on February 28, 2026.

Sarah has served as CFO at MTN Mobile Money Uganda since May 2022, where she leads the strategic alignment of business goals and risk mitigation efforts to ensure compliance with regulations. 

Prior to her current role, Sarah spent over nine years at MTN Uganda, serving as senior manager finance operations from May 2013 to April 2022. 

She also worked at MTN Rwanda as senior manager financial operations from June 2009 to June 2012.

Earlier in her career, Sarah served as grants finance officer at Deloitte Consulting and JSI Research and Training /Uphold, where she managed financial aspects of donor-funded projects. She holds a BCom in accounting from Makerere University and is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a certified public accountant in Uganda (CPA-U).
