Stephen has over 20 years of experience in financial management, regulatory reporting, and strategic leadership across banking and professional services across more than 10 African countries.
Stephen Owuyo has assumed the role of group finance director at Equity Group Holdings.
He joins the group from Absa Group, where he most recently served as head of financial planning and analysis and cost management for the corporate and investment banking (CIB) division. Prior to that, he was chief financial officer for Absa Vehicle Management Solutions and Fleet Card. He also served as director and financial controller for Absa Regional Operations, overseeing finance functions across 10 countries.

Stephen began his career at PwC Kenya in 2003 as an associate, later becoming senior associate and manager. In 2008, he moved to PwC South Africa, where he was senior manager and then associate director, leading cross-border audit and advisory engagements for banks and insurers.
In 2017, he joined Ecobank Transnational Incorporated as group financial controller.
Stephen holds a Bachelor of business management in accounting and finance from Moi University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the University of Oxford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
